Overview

This three night extension is a focused, unhurried introduction to Udaipur, widely considered the most romantic city in Rajasthan, and to the extraordinary marble temples of Ranakpur nearby.

Guests are based throughout at the Taj Fateh Prakash Palace, a heritage hotel within the City Palace complex itself, overlooking the waters of Lake Pichola.

A full day is spent exploring Udaipur's palaces, temples and gardens, closing with an evening boat ride on the lake, before a second full day out to Ranakpur, home to one of Rajasthan's most celebrated Jain temple complexes.

Designed as a short, self-contained addition to a longer Rajasthan or North India journey, this extension works equally well as a standalone long weekend for guests short on time.

Highlights

  • Three nights at the Taj Fateh Prakash Palace, a heritage hotel inside Udaipur's City Palace complex overlooking Lake Pichola
  • A guided tour of the City Palace, one of the largest palace complexes in Rajasthan

Continue to the Jagdish Temple, one of the city's most important shrines, dedicated to Lord Vishnu and reached by a broad flight of stone steps, its richly carved spire a fine example of Indo-Aryan temple architecture. From there, visit the City Palace itself, perched on the eastern bank of Lake Pichola and one of the largest palace complexes in Rajasthan, before rounding off the morning at the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandir, a folk art museum celebrating the region's puppetry, masks and traditional crafts. In the evening, step aboard a boat for a leisurely cruise across Lake Pichola, watching the City Palace and the lakeside havelis glow gold in the evening light (subject to water levels in the lake).
