Overview

This journey has been conceived as far more than a sequence of sacred destinations. It follows an emotional and spiritual progression through India: from arrival and anticipation to awe, devotion, reflection, collective faith and, ultimately, stillness. Each chapter is paced so that guests do not merely see the spiritual heart of India, but absorb it.

The early days stimulate curiosity and wonder, the middle days deepen the emotional and cultural connection, and the final days create room for rest, reflection and renewal. Luxury is expressed not only through hotels and private transport, but through intelligent pacing, effortless logistics and the confidence of being looked after without feeling managed.

Highlights

  • Private boat journeys on the Ganges at dusk and at sunrise in Varanasi, followed by the Ganga Aarti
  • The Conversation of Kashi, an intimate encounter with a scholar or storyteller
  • A private boat to the Triveni Sangam at Prayagraj, where the sacred rivers meet
  • The Ramayana by Firelight in Ayodhya, and a curated visit to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir and Hanuman Garhi
  • Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar and a hilltop temple visit, followed by a luxury wellness retreat in Rishikesh
  • Star Travels Curated Moments: The Journey Intention, A Letter to the Self and The Closing Table

  1. Delhi

Day 1Namaste: An Unhurried Welcome to Delhi

Arrive in Delhi, where the journey begins with a deliberate sense of ease. After a long international flight, the first expression of luxury is not a crowded programme but the reassurance that every detail has already been considered. Guests are welcomed with personal airport assistance and escorted by private vehicle to their luxury hotel. The rest of the day is intentionally unstructured, leaving time to recover, settle in and slip gently into the rhythm of the journey ahead. In the evening, gather for an intimate welcome dinner. Rather than a conventional tour briefing, the evening introduces the philosophy of the journey: over the coming days, sacred rivers, ancient cities, mythology and living traditions will form the outer landscape, while reflection and renewal quietly shape the inner one.

    Star Travels Curated Moment

The Journey Intention. Each guest is invited to consider privately what they hope to find on the journey ahead. There is no prescribed answer and no expectation to share. Simply pausing before the journey begins creates a subtle sense of anticipation and personal ownership.

    • Personal airport assistance and private transfer to your hotel
    • Intimate welcome dinner

Private luxury vehicle with chauffeur, airport to hotel: typically 15 to 35 km, 30 to 90 minutes depending on traffic. VIP fast-track airport assistance can be added where available.

  2. Varanasi

Day 2Lamplight on the Eternal River

After a relaxed breakfast, transfer privately to the airport for the short flight to Varanasi. Flying at this stage is intentional: it protects the comfort and rhythm of the journey while preserving energy for the experiences that matter. On arrival, guests are met by their private team and taken to the hotel, with time to settle before a first encounter with Kashi. As afternoon turns to evening, a specialist storyteller leads a gently paced introduction to selected lanes and riverfront spaces, interpreting the atmosphere rather than overwhelming guests with facts. Later, board a private boat on the Ganges. The first moments are deliberately quiet; as the ghats begin to glow and the city changes character, the experience becomes an emotional introduction to one of the world's most extraordinary sacred landscapes. Before guests try to understand Varanasi, they are given the chance to feel it.

    • Private transfers and domestic flight, Delhi to Varanasi
    • Old city walk with a specialist storyteller
    • Private evening boat on the Ganges

Private vehicle, domestic flight (approximately 1 hour 20 minutes, subject to schedule) and private airport transfer. Ground transfers approximately 30 to 90 minutes each. Choose a flight that allows for a relaxed afternoon's arrival.

  3. Day 3Dawn on the Ghats, Where Life Meets Liberation

Rise before sunrise for one of the defining experiences of the journey: a private boat on the Ganges as first light spreads across the water and Varanasi awakens. Bells, prayer, bathing, conversation and quiet contemplation coexist without choreography. This is not a performance; it is the daily rhythm of a living sacred city. After breakfast, explore selected sacred spaces with a private specialist guide. The focus is not on collecting temples but on understanding the ideas that have made Kashi spiritually significant for centuries: transformation, liberation, devotion, and the relationship between earthly life and eternity. Later, meet a carefully selected scholar or storyteller for The Conversation of Kashi, an intimate, thought-provoking exchange rather than a formal lecture. The evening culminates in the Ganga Aarti, with carefully planned timing and viewing arrangements.

    • Private sunrise boat on the Ganges
    • Sacred Varanasi with a private specialist guide
    • The Conversation of Kashi
    • Ganga Aarti with arranged viewing

Private boat, walking and private vehicle as required. Local drives of 2 to 10 km at a time. Walking is moderate; lane access in the old city calls for flexible timing.

  4. Day 4Sarnath's Serenity and the Soul of Banaras

Today reveals a quieter, more contemplative side of India's spiritual heritage. After breakfast, travel privately to Sarnath, where the Buddha is said to have delivered his first sermon, moving from the intensity of Varanasi to a landscape of reflection and philosophical enquiry. Explore at an unhurried pace, with time to understand the site's cultural and historical layers rather than rushing between monuments. Return to Varanasi for a relaxing afternoon. Later, discover that spirituality in India is not confined to temples: it is also expressed through sound, craftsmanship and the sharing of food. Depending on the group's interests, Star Travels curates an intimate classical music encounter, a private introduction to Banarasi weaving, or a culinary experience inspired by the flavours of Kashi. After two immersive days, this is an important pause, in which devotion is encountered through beauty and creativity.

    • Private excursion to Sarnath
    • One curated experience: classical music, Banarasi weaving or a culinary experience

Private luxury vehicle, Varanasi to Sarnath and back: approximately 20 to 30 km round trip, 1 to 2 hours in total. The rest of the day stays local and unhurried.

  5. Prayagraj

Day 5At the Meeting of the Sacred Rivers

After breakfast, travel by private vehicle to Prayagraj. The drive through the landscapes of Uttar Pradesh creates a welcome transition from the dense sensory world of Varanasi to the open river landscape of the Sangam. Arrive, settle into your hotel and take time to refresh. Later, board a private boat for the approach to the Triveni Sangam, the sacred meeting point of rivers. The experience is designed around stillness rather than ceremony for its own sake: here, different currents meet, and the symbolism of movement, convergence and continuity is quietly powerful. Guests have time for prayer, reflection or simple observation, and a private ritual can be arranged for those who wish to take part. Where Kashi confronts the traveller with intensity, Prayagraj offers space to contemplate connection.

    • Private drive to Prayagraj
    • Private boat to the Triveni Sangam
    • Private ritual at the SangamOn request

Private luxury vehicle, approximately 120 to 135 km, 3 to 4.5 hours with a comfortable refreshment stop. Private boat approximately 45 to 90 minutes, depending on access point and river conditions.

  6. Ayodhya

Day 6Tales of Rama by Firelight

After breakfast, continue by private vehicle to Ayodhya as the journey moves from the symbolism of sacred rivers to one of India's most enduring philosophical and mythological landscapes. On arrival, settle into the hotel and rest before the evening's signature experience. The Ramayana by Firelight is an intimate storytelling encounter. Its purpose is not simply to recount the life of Lord Rama but to explore why the story still resonates today, through the themes of duty, sacrifice, loyalty, love, leadership and responsibility. Guests encounter the Ramayana as a living philosophy rather than a distant tale, building anticipation for tomorrow, when Ayodhya's sacred geography brings the story to life.

    • Private drive to Ayodhya
    • The Ramayana by Firelight storytelling evening

Private luxury vehicle, approximately 165 to 175 km, 4 to 5.5 hours. An early departure and one refined comfort stop are recommended.

  7. Day 7Ayodhya: The Kingdom of Rama

Begin early, before the city reaches its busiest rhythm. Today is curated rather than exhaustive: the aim is a coherent understanding of Ayodhya and its enduring bond with Lord Rama, not a visit to every sacred site. Visit the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir and selected sites according to official timings, access procedures and guest interests. Hanuman Garhi is an essential counterpoint, representing devotion, courage and unwavering service, and holds an important place in the traditional pilgrimage sequence. Your guide connects each place with its story, philosophy and symbolism. Return to the hotel in the afternoon to rest. As evening approaches, travel to the banks of the Saryu, where the pace grows quieter.

    Star Travels Curated Moment

A Letter to the Self. Guests are invited to write privately about what they wish to remember, reconsider or carry forward. The letter is sealed and returned on the final evening of the journey, creating a bridge between the stories encountered along the way and the reflections emerging within.

    • Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir
    • Hanuman Garhi
    • Evening on the banks of the Saryu

Private vehicle and walking where appropriate; short local drives. Temple timings, security procedures and crowd levels determine the exact sequence.

  8. Haridwar

Day 8Where the Ganges Meets the Plains

Today the journey turns towards the Himalayan foothills. To avoid an exhausting overland day, travel is planned around the best available flight: depart Ayodhya with private airport assistance, fly via the most suitable gateway, and continue by private chauffeur-driven vehicle to Haridwar. After ancient cities and epic mythology, Haridwar introduces the immense collective force of faith. Arrive and settle into the hotel. As evening approaches, experience the atmosphere of the sacred riverfront, where spirituality is communal and immediate, with families, pilgrims and generations gathering beside the Ganges. The day ends gently, preserving energy for tomorrow.

    • Private airport assistance and transfers
    • Domestic flight via Dehradun or Delhi
    • Evening on the Haridwar riverfront

Private vehicle, domestic flight and private chauffeur transfer. Flight time depends on routing. Dehradun area to Haridwar approximately 35 to 45 km, 1 to 1.5 hours. Alternative: fly to Delhi and continue by road or rail.

  9. Rishikesh

Day 9From Sacred Steps to Himalayan Serenity

Begin in Haridwar, one of India's most revered pilgrimage cities, where the Ganges leaves the Himalayan foothills and enters the northern plains. Visit Har Ki Pauri, Haridwar's most significant riverfront, in the quieter morning hours as pilgrims arrive for prayer and ritual bathing. Your private guide explains the spiritual significance of the Ganges, Haridwar's role as a pilgrimage gateway, and the symbolism of ritual bathing. Then visit one hilltop temple, Mansa Devi or Chandi Devi, chosen to suit the group and the timing, using the ropeway where appropriate, followed by a relaxed private lunch. In the early afternoon, drive the short distance to Rishikesh as the landscape turns greener and the foothills draw closer. Check in to your luxury wellness retreat, where the afternoon is left spacious for a treatment, gentle yoga, reading or time by the river. As evening falls, begin the Rishikesh chapter with a private meditation, a Himalayan sound experience or a quiet riverside walk. Until now the journey has explored devotion, mythology and faith; Rishikesh introduces stillness.

    Star Travels Curated Moment

A Quiet Moment by the Ganges. After the guided introduction at Har Ki Pauri, guests simply sit beside the river. There is no organised activity and no requirement to take part in a ritual, only time to watch the river and the rhythm of the city. This is luxury as time without instruction.

    • Har Ki Pauri with a private guide
    • Mansa Devi or Chandi Devi hilltop temple (one, not both)
    • Private lunch in Haridwar
    • Evening meditation, sound experience or riverside walk

Private luxury vehicle, Haridwar to Rishikesh: approximately 25 to 35 km, 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. The temple sequence stays flexible to suit crowds, ropeway operations and guest preference.

  10. Day 10Breath, Balance and the Quiet Ganges

Today is deliberately free of long journeys; everything so far has been leading here. Begin with a private yoga and breathwork session adapted to each guest's abilities, where the emphasis is on awareness, balance and presence rather than athletic performance. After breakfast, a private conversation with a wellness practitioner, yoga teacher or spiritual guide may explore breath, meditation, balance and the philosophy of yoga. The afternoon is reserved for personal wellbeing: a treatment, quiet time by the river, or the simple pleasure of having nowhere to be. In the evening, return to the Ganges for the final riverside moment. No spectacle is needed. The journey has met the river in Varanasi, at the Sangam and in Haridwar, and here the final encounter is intentionally quiet. The river is the same. The traveller is not.

    • Private yoga and breathwork session
    • Conversation with a wellness practitioner or spiritual guide
    • The final riverside moment
    • Spa treatmentsNot included

Mainly on foot within the retreat and local area, with a private vehicle on standby. Minimal or no driving; this day is protected from unnecessary sightseeing.

Day 11The Closing Table: Letters Come Home

Enjoy a slow final morning in Rishikesh, with a last yoga practice, a quiet walk or simply breakfast overlooking the Himalayan foothills. Later, depart privately for Delhi. The return is treated as part of the experience rather than a transfer, offering time for conversation, reflection and quiet anticipation of home. On arrival, check in to your luxury hotel. The Closing Table brings the journey full circle. At the final dinner, guests receive the sealed letters they wrote in Ayodhya, with no requirement to read them aloud. The journey began with a private intention and ends with a private reflection; what remains is whatever meaning each traveller chooses to carry home.

    • Private return to Delhi by road, or by flight from Dehradun
    • The Closing Table farewell dinner

Private luxury vehicle, approximately 245 to 270 km, 5.5 to 7.5 hours. For maximum comfort: private transfer to Dehradun Airport (approximately 35 to 45 km, 1 to 1.5 hours) and a domestic flight to Delhi, subject to schedule.

  12. Day 12The Journey Within Continues

After breakfast, enjoy a private transfer to Delhi International Airport for your onward journey. There is no need for a dramatic conclusion. The most memorable journeys rarely end when the aircraft departs; they continue quietly, in the stories remembered, the questions carried forward and the moments that return long after the journey has finished. From the ancient fire of Kashi to the meeting of sacred rivers, from the philosophy of Rama to the collective faith of Haridwar and the stillness of Rishikesh, this journey has followed more than a route across India. Sacred in Splendour concludes here. The journey within it remains open.

    • Private transfer to Delhi International Airport

Private luxury vehicle with chauffeur, hotel to airport: typically 15 to 35 km, 30 to 90 minutes. Allow ample time for international check-in.

When to travel

Prayagraj is extremely busy during the Magh Mela (usually January to February) and in Kumbh Mela years. During the monsoon (roughly July to September), high river levels can suspend boat trips in Varanasi, at the Sangam and in Rishikesh. April to June is very hot on the plains.
